How to Care for a 200 Density Human Hair Wig

For several years I’ve opted for using heat styling my own hair rather than learning about wig care and styling and about the differences between synthetic wig and human hair wig because I was intimidated by both the installation process and the final look.

Before even considering wig installations, it’s important to understand which types of wig are available, because costs can vary widely from under $100 for cheap synthetic units to well into the thousands for custom made human hairs. There are many different kinds of wig options available, including lace front wig, lace closure wig, headbands, ready to wear wig, half wig, U part wig, and more.

A personal favorite is the 200 density human hair wig. It is extra full and glam. It is heavy but this is one of your go to wig when you want that celebrity look, extra flashy and glamorous.

How Often Should I Wash My Human Hair Wig?

We recommend washing and styling your hair every six weeks. Conditioners should be applied to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Avoid applying conditioners to the roots because they may weigh down your hair and make it feel heavy. Deep conditioners help add volume and shine to your hair. They also protect against heat damage. Follow the directions on the product label carefully.

You should always use hair products on the end of your hair and use a heat protectant when blow-drying and styling. If your wigs need to be cleaned more frequently or less frequently, you can adjust your regimen accordingly. Be extra meticulous and careful when washing your 200 density wig as they are extra long and extra heavy. Make sure to take your time and handle it with care.

Other Tips

  1. Before washing, use a wide-toothed brush to smooth out the wig hair. Don’t pull or twist the hair fibers.
  2. Soak: Fill a basin with cool tap/well-running/showering/etc. tap/well-running or well-showering/etc.) running/tap/showering/ etc. (depending on where you live) tap/well-running/showering/or whatever type of tap/well-running you have available.
  3. Rinse: Swirl the hair gently in the sink to loosen any tangles. “Keep the stream of the tap flowing with the hair’s shape,” Taylor says. Then, drain the sink and fill it with fresh, cold tap-cold enough to feel refreshing but not too cold to burn skin. Swish the hair again until all the soap is removed.
  4. Condition: Empty the sink and fill it with clean water. Add one drop of conditioners to the water and soak the wig for five minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
  5. If you want to keep your wigs looking fresh for longer, blot them with a towel and then put them on a stand or towel to air-dry. Do not heat-dry your wigs.
