How to choose tyres: tyre markings for newbies.

Introduction

It is common sense that you need a specific set of tyres for the winter season; they are entirely different for the summer. Here is something motor enthusiasts should know!

The majority of humans know that there’s a thing called “all-season tyres” and the fact that by buying these tyres, you can solve all your problems when it comes to driving.

Just in case you didn’t know, the type of tyres affects the noise level in the cabin and the quality of traction!

Winter tyres or summer tyres?

It is not recommended to drive on winter tyres in the hot season. Plus, it may also prove to be unsafe to drive on the wrong tyres.

The question still remains, what tyres to opt for?

Simple answer: depends on the country and climate. But then again, a motorhead should know which tyres to choose.

Tyre markings and main characteristics

Almost all car tyres have different markings. So, what are they? What do they mean?

Tyre size

The size indicator can be found on all tyres. It looks something like this: 195/65 R15. It’s basically the profile width and the height/width ratio.

If the tyres support cargo, the letter C is marked.

That is, these tyres are designed for light trucks and vans. One should try to choose tyres only from the options compatible with their vehicle and preference.

Um, how about profiles?

Profile width is a pretty significant indicator. The wider it is, the more grip it has.

It’s essential to remember that wide tyres are good for summer tyres and narrow tyres are suitable for winter tyres. The absolute blessing of the width is augmented acceleration and briefer braking distances.

Also, wide tyres have proven to display high magnetic execution and because of this,  these kinds of tyres are also recommended for sports cars. The disadvantages of wide tyres are higher fuel consumption and the appearance of an aquaplaning effect at low speeds.

Profile height is also a central indicator. The deeper the profile, the more immeasurable the grip. Concurrently, tyres with a base profile are more exposed to uneven paths, and the possibility of rim damage is doubled. Consequently, if you need extraordinary reliability at tremendously high speeds and on high-grade condition roads on which you have to drive, you are also sure, feel free to choose low-profile tyres with a height of 55 or less. If you frequently operate on mud roads or similar, then high profile tyres will be a practical, solid choice. However, recapture that high profile tyres are not as stable at high speeds and sharp curves. Tyres greater than 85 heights are full-profile tyres designed for off-road conditions.

The alphabet R symbolises that you have a radial tyre.

The mounting broadness is registered on every tyre in inches. It should harmonise with the size of your rims. Otherwise, the bought tyres will be worthless and will have to be reinstated.

The Brand

The tyre brand is what all of us pay close attention to while picking any tyres. Also, it is not unusual because a label is a kind of rank scale. Plus, the cost is a generic method in the choice of any commodity. Tyres, in this case, are no exception. While thinking of tyres, a unison doesn’t exist. There are really a lot of manufacturers. Take Falken, for example; it is aimed towards today’s youth, providing them with high durability and top-quality tyres.

Again, everyone prefers, depending on their capabilities and preferences, which tyre is right for them.

Still, it must be noted that for budget and middle-class automobiles, there is no notable variation in the quality of tyres from different manufacturers.
